Camp Descriptions (Ages 11-17)

The Old Pro Series - 9am-4pm (Ages 11-14): Join the “Old Pros” in these week long specialized camps. Each camp will focus on specific skills to help your young actor or artist fine tune their skills. Final Showcase on Fridays for every camp!

Full Day Enrollment—$150/week

Ages 11-14: Old Pros Series - Full and Half Day Camps (9 AM – 4 PM)

Week 1: June 19 – June 23

Triple Threat – 9am-Noon What will it take to give your performer a little more of an edge? Being a Triple Threat! This week we will work on SINGING, DANCING, and ACTING for to give your Old Pro the upper hand!

Film Camp– 9am-1pm Lets make a movie! This week we will write, act and film our own movie and music video! The videos will be featured on the Arts Center Website and the short film submitted into the Cucalorus Festival!

Week 2: June 26 – June 30

You're the Next Contestant – 9am-Noon – This fun-filled camp will be perfect for Wilmington's Next X-Factor, Idol, Voice. In  this reality show mash-up campers will learn what it takes to perform infront of a live audience!

Behind the Curtains of WONKA – 1pm-4pm The art of Stage Craft will take over the next week on Second St. This week we will be working closely with the cast of Willy Wonka to prepare their costumes, makeup, props, and set for the show on June 30 - July 1. Campers will learn how to design a set and then build it!

Week 3: July 10 – July 14

Galaxy Far Far Away – 9am-Noon –Once upon a time in a Galaxy Far Far Away there were creative young campers that gathered at the Community Arts Center for a week of fantasy fun!

Magical Muggles– 1pm-4pmStill waiting for your Hogwarts letter? So are we! This camp will be for us muggles ready to learn some magic! We will make our own wands, play quidditch, craft potions and get sorted into Houses. Let the magic begin!

Week 4: July 17 – July 21

Broadway Now – 9am-NoonThis camp will be for the Broadway lover! Sing, dance, and act scenes from your favorite Broadway hits!  This camp will get your young performer ready for their next big show. The Friday's Show and Share will include full ensemble dance numbers from our favorite Broadway Musicals!

Behind the Curtains of Neverland– 1-4pm The art of Stage Craft will take over the next week on Second St. This week we will be working closely with the cast of Peter Pan to prepare their costumes and set for the show on July 21 and 22. Campers will learn how to design a set and then build it!

Week 5: July 24 – July 28

 Everybody's an Understudy– 9am-NoonIn this unique acting class campers will learn the importance of knowing their lines and everybody elses. During the week, campers will learn the lines to all parts of the skit and wont know what part they will have until the final showcase!

Orange Street Pottery Camp – 1-4pm - Our 3rd Summer of Pottery! Campers will learn the basics of ceramics in this afternoon camp! All campers will walk away with their very own completed piece of pottery.  Supply fee of $10.

Week 6: July 31 – August 4

TACT preview camp – 9am-NoonThis camp will be perfect for your TACT performer. Campers will get a little taste of 2017-2018 season of TACT with songs and scenes from all the upcoming youth productions! Friday's Show and Share will be an as entertaining as the season itself!

Ultimate Gamer Week – 1pm-4pmFor the passionate video gamer, this is the camp for you. This week, all of our crafts will be based on our favorite games; from the classic like Pac-Man and Mario to the new favorites like Pokemon and Minecraft!  

Broadway on Second Street – 2 week Production Camp  (9am – 4pm)


This 2 week, full day camp will be an amazing opportunity for your performer to participate in a full children's theater production from start to finish. We will have a limited number of spots available. The first day of camp will be your audition and parts will be assigned at the beginning of the 2nd day of camp.

Each day will consist of character development, music direction, chorography, staging and more. There will be guest instructors in order to enhance the student’s knowledge of acting techniques. Teaming up with local theater professionals makes this is a unique opportunity for both seasoned actors and new-comers to learn from the very best. The final weekend production will be open to the public with performances on Friday and Saturday at 7pm.

Session 1: June 19 – June 30 (Ages 8-16) FULL

FULL Willy Wonka– Willy Wonka is the classic story by Roald Dahl about a young boy, Charlie, who dreams of finding the Golden Ticket in order to visit the infamous Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Join us on our journey with unforgetable characters, scrumdiddlyumptious tunes, and some little orange men! (Ages 8-16)

Shows Dates: Friday June 30 and Saturday July 1 at 7:00 pm

Session 2: July 10 – July 21 (Ages 7-15) FULL

FULL Peter Pan – Peter and Wendy is the story of a boy who never wants to grow up! Join the Darling children as they magically fly to Neverland and meet new friends but also will encounter some dangerous enemies. Our original musical will end with 2 public performances on July 21 and 22 at 7:00pm. (Ages 7-15)

Shows Dates: Friday July 21 and Saturday July 22 at 7:00 pm

Session 3: July 24 – August 4 (Ages 11-17)

TEEN ONLY EDITION – This session of BOSS camp is for our TEENS! The campers will have the choice of 3 straight plays that they will get to choose from on the first day of camp. With special guest instructors from local professionals this will be a truly unique oppurtunity for our older campers. Campers will not only be responsible for learning their lines but will also learn how to design a set, make props, build a costume plot, and all the funamental functions of putting on a full length play. Come ready to PLAY and LEARN! (Ages 11-17)

Shows Dates: Friday August 4 and Saturday August 5 at 7:00 pm

The Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center is managed by the staff of the The Thalian Association, the Official Community Theater of North Carolina.

The Thalian Association is a non-profit, membership organization founded in 1788 to provide arts education and bring the excitement of the performing arts to Wilmington. The organization has its offices and holds auditions at the Community Arts Center.  The Center also hosts the Thalian Children's Theater classes and performances.
